# Get Version

> Report which release is running and which API contract it serves.

The build fields are stamped into the container image at release time, so
they identify the deployed artefact exactly; a build that was never stamped
reports ``0.0.0-dev`` on the ``local`` channel. Unauthenticated so it can be
read from any deployment without a login.
